In Association With Sports Medicine Arthroscopy Workshop and A+ Orthopaedic & Sports Med Centre
Mumbai: The Sports Medicine Unit at Sir Ganga Ram Hospitals and A+ Orthopaedic and Sports Med Centre, Delhi, recently conducted the 19th Sports Medicine Arthroscopy Workshop in association with the Indian Arthroscopy Society and Indian Federation of Sports Medicine. They partnered with MediSage for this workshop to allow medical professionals who could not attend the workshop physically to have virtual access to the event.
The workshop that took place in Delhi had experts in the field of sports medicine who gathered together to discuss ‘All Around ACL–Recent Advancements’, with a focus on the latest advancements in ACL reconstruction. The minimalistic and biological approach of ‘All Inside ACL Reconstruction’, orthobiologics, acute repair of ACL tear and internal bracing, besides graft choices like Quadricep tendon, BTB and Peroneal graft for revisions, were the highlights of the session.
The workshop offered a combination of didactic lectures and live surgeries, allowing attendees to thoroughly understand the procedure and its techniques. This was followed by three hands-on skill stations where the delegates could practice and further their skills in this field. As ACL injuries are common among athletes and can significantly impact their careers, it is crucial that medical professionals stay up-to-date with the latest advancements and techniques in ACL reconstruction.
For those who could not physically attend the session as the registration spots got filled in very quickly, MediSage, a global knowledge platform for doctors, provided them easy access to virtual viewership. While the physical footfall at the workshop was great, the virtual platform allowed the conference sessions to reach last-mile doctors and gain from the expertise and erudition of the faculty.
Organizing Chairman Prof. (Dr) Prateek Kr Gupta, Head of the Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Unit at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, said, “The ACL reconstruction workshop provided a valuable opportunity for medical professionals to enhance their knowledge and skills in performing ACL reconstruction surgeries. Surgical repair of ACL has been the standard treatment for patients, but new management strategies are constantly evolving with advancements in technology and scientific research.”
Mr Bhagwat Dhingra, MD and Founder, MediSage, speaking on the event, said, “Medisage is highly committed towards bringing the best of medical advancements to the doctor community at large digitally. We collaborate with key experts and HoDs of premier institutes, such as Prof (Dr) Prateek Kr. Gupta, who is at the cusp of breakthrough science. We believe that, through these efforts, MediSage can bring about a major change in the healthcare landscape and educate last-mile doctors.”
About Sports Medicine Arthroscopy Workshop
Journey of SMAW started in 2005 in Delhi as the first of its kind meeting focusing on topics related to sports injuries. The foundation stone for SMAW was laid even earlier when Dr Prateek Kumar Gupta, the founder of SMAW, established the first of its-kind *Sports Medicine Unit* at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital as early as 2002. As a brainchild of Dr. Prateek Kumar Gupta, a sports injury expert, came the first edition of SMAW 2005 with a focus on sports injuries and how minimal interventions like arthroscopy can make all the difference in quicker recovery.
Since 2005, SMAW has been being organised every year till date. The motto remains the same – “Spreading the sports medicine and arthroscopy skills to the nook and corner of India”. The organising committee has been successfully accomplishing this aim by holding SMAW every year and imparting knowledge and skill to all interested and budding orthopaedic surgeons.
